Enid’s Matthew Reames – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Slater Mechanical

By Jay Hoberecht

Mathew Reames is an eighteen-year-old senior at Enid High School. He is the youngest of four children, including one brother and two sisters. He is part of a huge family. Interestingly, he has been taught by both his Mom and sister in school.

Reames is involved in many activities at Enid High. He runs cross-country and track (800 meters, one mile, and 3,200 meters).  He is in the Student Council, the National Honor Society, the Show Choir, the Concert Choir, and the school musical. Plus, he is on the leadership team with FCA.  He is part of a group that plans games and fun things for Huddle groups.  Enid High FCA sponsor Dennom Sullivan told me Mathew is an “outstanding young man who has been a big part of the FCA Leadership Team.”  His team gets things going in a positive and fun way!  That’s a big part of great FCA huddles.

Mathew talked with me about the hard work and fun he has in Show Choir and Concert Choir. Plus, the school musical. He enjoys singing and being involved with such fun groups that work hard to represent Enid High.  He has been in the last two school musicals, Footloose and Mean Girls.  Mathew smiled big and said, “Musicals are so fun!”  By the way, this year’s school musical is Percy Jackson. Make plans to attend, it’s a great way to spend a fun night with the family.

I asked Mathew about his plans after graduating. He wants to go to Autry Vo-Tech and become a Diesel Technician/Mechanic. Mathew has a plan for a great career path!

I talked with Mathew about what advice he would give an eighth grader entering high school.  He thought for several moments and talked about choosing friends wisely and about being aware of all the opportunities available to you during high school.

Mathew Reames, a thoughtful young man, is making a difference at Enid High School!
