Covington-Douglas’ Hayden Marler – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Wiggins Auctioneers & Realty

There is a lot of work that is required to be successful at anything. While it may seem that some people just stumble into being great at what they do, there are hours of effort and dedication that have helped them get to where they are. Hayden Marler knows that it takes and she also says that it helps to have people to help keep you focused.
“For me to be the player I am, it has taken confidence and lots of hard work,” she said. “I work really hard, and I try to put in extra time to get better. Also, my mom, dad, and my teammates help me stay motivated.”

Marler is a freshman at Covington Douglas High School where she is a member of the softball, basketball, cross country, and track teams.

Bonnie Casteel, the head coach of the Wildcats’ softball team says that while she may be one of the underclassmen, Marler will make an impact on the field.

“Hayden will only be a freshman but she is a force at the plate and at shortstop,” the coach said. “She has a great glove, is quick around the bases, and is just an all around ball player.”

Throughout her time playing sports, Hayden has made a lot of great memories. But out of all of them, she has one that stands out as her favorite.

“The highlight of my career was when some girls on my team and I made a triple play,” she recalled. “It was really cool to be a part of that.”

There are a number of teams that Marler and her teammates face throughout the season. But when asked who her favorite team to go up against and beat was, her response was simple.

“All of them,” she stated. “I never like losing to another team.”
