Educators are an important part of our society. Not only are they valued members of the community, but they also have a big impact on the next generation of citizens. Cole Hibler is a teacher and coach at Chisholm High School and he says that this career path is what he knew he wanted to do.
“I grew up an educator and coach’s kid,” he said. “I knew nothing else. I knew I wanted to coach basketball and teach at a young age. I have always heard it said you never truly work when you enjoy what you do. I knew teaching and coaching would give me that. Every day I wake up excited to go to school.”
Hibler teaches Outdoor Education and Health and Fitness to grades ninth through twelfth at Chisholm. He is also the head boys basketball coach. This is his fourth year at Chisholm, but he made a couple of other stops before landing here.
“I really enjoy being at Chisholm, it is a great place to work,” he stated. “Before coming here, I spent a year coaching alongside Jim Deaton at Caney Valley, Kansas for one year, following that I was at Blackwell for two years working alongside Terril Hankins.”
Teaching comes with its own set of challenges, but there are also a lot of rewards too. Cole says that knowing his students will make an impact on the world is a great feeling.
“I enjoy watching students learn and grow in the classroom and beyond the classroom,” he said. “Some of the best advice I was given is that even if you get through to just a handful of students that makes a difference as an educator. Those efforts of countless hours will not go unnoticed.”
Cole and his wife Ashley have been married for six years and they have two children, Hayden and Grayson. When he is not in the classroom and the gym, Hibler likes to hang out with his family and play with his kids. And he also enjoys deer hunting.
