OFFENSE
All of the starters on the offensive line are back for new head coach Cole Smith. Having that experience will help as the team tackles a new offensive strategy heading into the new season. “This will be my first year at Canton after being the head coach at Depew for the past five years. We return all of the starters from the OL and DL. We will have new faces in the skill positions with a freshman at QB,” said Smith. That freshman is Carson Cavett (5-10, 145) who will pilot thesingle back, pistol offense. Having a strong offensive line will help. Nick Sullins (5-9, 220, Sr.) can play on the line as well as tight end. Josh Postelwait (6-5, 350, Jr.) starts at guard with Clayton Arrington (6-1, 310, Sr.) at center. Add tight end Coltin Smith (6-0, 200, Sr.) and you have a team that will rely heavily on the talents of running back Landon Vowell (5-8, 165, Jr.). Vowell could have a big year as the Tigers look to continue building depth while embracing a new system.
DEFENSE
Four starters are back on defense including Postelwait who will start on the line with Smith and Sullins. They make up the trio in the 3-2 scheme the Tigers will employ. Their play is crucial in setting the physical style the Tigers want from their defense. Vowell and Joseph Sutton (5-10, 200, Sr.) are two quick linebackers who play downhill football. Both players could have big seasons. Lucas Sessions (5-9, 140, So.) is a young, exciting player in the secondary and is developing into a great player for the Tigers. Despite his youth, Sessions is making plays and helping this defense live up to expectations.
