Athlete Spotlight with Enid’s Sophia Alatorre – Presented by Enid Tag Agency

High school athletes have a lot of things on their plates. They have to practice and be ready to compete on game day, and they also put in a lot of work in the classroom to keep their grades up. You also have to add in if they are involved in any other extracurricular activities or clubs. Needless to say, the schedule can get a little hectic sometimes.

Sophia Alatorre is a freshman at Enid High School, and she says that you have to focus on what you have to do.

“It takes a lot of time,” she said. “Knowing how to manage your time between activities and your classes, and being sure you get all your work assignments done on time, while still being able to participate in sports activities. And also a lot of dedication and commitment.”

Sophia is a member of her school’s cheerleading team, and she is also involved in Leadership.

There have been several people in Sophia’s life who have made an impact on her. She has a few that jump to mind.

“My mom is a big influence in my life,” she said. “She is always there and supports me through my journey and most of the decisions that I make. Mrs. Shortnacy has been an amazing teacher. She has always made me feel very welcome, and she’s a very understanding and kind person to all her students. Also, I have an amazing coach in Carrie DeClerck who has made a huge impact on my life. She has always believed in me. I was so close to giving up on cheer, and she saw so much potential in me, never took no for an answer, and I’m extremely thankful for that because it has all been amazing and extremely fun. And can’t wait to see how much more the future holds.”

Over the years, Alatorre has received different pieces of advice, and she says that there is one that stands out the most.

“Some piece of advice I’ve been given is to not listen to what others say and to not take things personally,” she said.
