Athlete Spotlight with Enid’s Julius Mitchell – Presented by Rib Crib

Throughout each of our lives, there are people that have a big influence on us and help shape us into who we are. Julius Mitchell is a junior at Enid High School and he has several people that have played this role for him.

“My grandma, dad and brother are all role models for me,” he said. “They encourage me to always try my hardest in everything I do. The teacher that has had the most impact on my life would be my freshman English teacher because she would help me with problems outside of school. If I ever was going through a rough time in my life I could always talk  to her.”

As a student athlete for the Plainsmen, Julius plays both basketball and track. As a dual sport athlete, Mitchell puts in a lot of work and has seen his investment payoff.

“To be successful, it takes always working hard and being persistent as well as pushing myself to practice even when I didn’t want to,” he said. “The highlight moment of my career was making it to state for high jump in track as a sophomore.”

When it comes to opponents, Julius is always ready to beat anyone that he is up against. But he says he has one that stands out as his favorite.

“An opponent I always had beating is my current friend Tagen Winn,” he said. “We were regarded as two of the best at our sport in our town and we went to different schools so beating him was always fun.”

When he is not practicing or competing, Mitchell checks in on his social media where he has a few people that he follows.

“My favorite person I follow on social media is CJ Stroud,” Mitchell said. “He has dealt with a lot of adversity throughout his career and reminds me to always acknowledge God in everything I do.”
