The Mustangs head into 2026 optimistic after a 6-5 season and with a roster that brings back a large group of contributors on both sides of the ball. Head coach August Overstreet, now in his 12th year at the helm, likes the experience returning at the skill positions and along the offensive front. He also knows his team will need some younger players to step up in the trenches to reach their potential. With a strong core in place and improved depth developing, Pioneer Pleasant Vale expects an exciting year as it chases a deeper postseason run.
Offensively, the Mustangs return four starters and will base out of an I-formation, ground-and-pound attack designed to control the line of scrimmage and wear down defenses. Senior quarterback Ziah Fawfaw (6-3, 180) brings size and experience under center, while senior tight end Broox Milacek (6-0, 185) provides a reliable target and an extra blocker on the edge. In the run game, junior running back Oliver Silva (6-0, 165) will look to spearhead the rushing attack behind a physical offensive line. Senior lineman Robert Salter (6-0, 320) anchors the front, with juniors Lane Lavicky (6-2, 210) and Jenson Kreger (6-3, 220) adding more size and strength up front. Overstreet’s squad wants to lean on that physicality, stay ahead of the chains and control tempo with a downhill run game.
Defensively, the Mustangs return five starters and will line up in a 3-2 look that emphasizes swarming to the football. Senior safety Eli Vanover (5-10, 155) is a key piece on the back end, while senior linebacker Kaughlyn O’Donnell (5-10, 165) brings experience and toughness to the second level. Fawfaw (6-3, 180) will contribute as a defensive end, using his length and athleticism to set the edge and pressure quarterbacks. Junior defenders Kaydon Marrow (6-0, 175) and Oliver Silva (6-0, 165) will play important roles on the defensive side of the ball, while sophomore safety Kyser Hester (6-2, 165) adds youth and range in the secondary. Overstreet expects this defense to pursue with effort, rally to the ball and create the kind of physical identity that can carry the Mustangs through a demanding schedule.
