GARBER WOLVERINES
Coach: KOY HUGHES
4-6
Garber returns several key contributors on both sides of the ball and will lean on that experience as it navigates what head coach Koy Hughes calls an extremely tough schedule in Class B-1. The Wolverines finished 4-6 last year but bring back production at quarterback, receiver, tight end and in the front seven, and Hughes expects this group to compete every week in one of the state’s deeper small-school districts.
Offensively, Garber will be spread, no-huddle and up tempo, intent on getting its athletes in space and letting them work. Senior quarterback Aiden Johnson (5-10, 180) is the trigger man after completing 106 of 184 passes for 1,580 yards and 22 touchdowns, plus eight two-point conversions against just five interceptions. Junior receiver and defensive back Cayden Ramsey (5-10, 170) caught 46 passes for 637 yards and eight touchdowns and four two-point conversions, giving Johnson a proven go-to target. Junior tight end and linebacker Hayden Timberlake (6-3, 220) added eight receptions for 144 yards and two touchdowns despite missing four games due to injury, while junior lineman Shane Smith (6-3, 250) anchors the offensive front. Sophomore running back and defensive back Kole Honeywell (5-10, 170) rushed 65 times for 401 yards and two touchdowns, and senior running back and linebacker Juan Martinez (5-10, 155) chipped in 74 rushing yards and a score, rounding out a versatile skill group.
Defensively, Garber bases out of a 4-1 look and wants to be physical while flying to the football. Ramsey was a standout on the back end with 87 tackles (65 solo), eight tackles for loss, a sack, eight interceptions and a forced fumble, making him one of the most productive two-way players on the roster. Junior linebacker Don Choate (5-9, 165) totaled 55 tackles with seven tackles for loss, four fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown, while Timberlake added 28 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in limited time. Junior linebacker Keiton Wilson (6-1, 175) posted 48 tackles and seven tackles for loss, Honeywell recorded 30 tackles from the secondary, and Smith chipped in 17 stops and two sacks up front. Johnson is Garber’s VYPE Top 100 nominee and was a junior captain who also excels in baseball and FFA, and Hughes describes him as a great kid and leader. With a seasoned quarterback, dynamic two-way athletes and a physical defensive front, the Wolverines believe they can handle their brutal slate and push for a playoff spot.
