Chisholm returns a deep, experienced roster with six offensive starters and eight defensive starters back, and second-year head coach Cameron Conder says “expectations are high” as the Longhorns continue their championship climb. Conder adds that his program has been “doing things others don’t to take the next step in our championship journey,” and with multiple elite playmakers and a veteran defense, Chisholm has the pieces in place for a serious run in Class 2A-1. The Longhorns finished 6-5 a season ago. Still, the experience gained from that campaign, combined with the returning talent, has Conder and his staff believing this group can compete with anyone in the classification.
The Longhorns base out of 11 personnel and throw the ball to set up the run, using perimeter speed to attack downfield and keep defenses honest. Chisholm will utilize its speed on the perimeter to stretch the field vertically and create favorable matchups for its playmakers. Senior wide receiver Manu Smolinski (6-1, 200) posted 1,200 all-purpose yards last season, while senior running back Mali Owens (5-9, 175) has already eclipsed 3,000 career rushing yards and remains the focal point of the ground game. Senior tight end Jase Hennigh (6-1, 206) caught 30 passes for 490 yards and five touchdowns, senior receiver Jagger Lohmann (5-9, 160) hauled in 26 catches for 318 yards, and sophomore offensive lineman Kole Smith (6-2, 270) anchors the front and provides the protection the Longhorns need to push the ball downfield.
Defensively, Chisholm shows a 3-3 look and will fly to the football and have a lot of speed attacking the football. The Longhorns return eight starters on defense, giving them experience at every level and the ability to play aggressive, attacking football without overthinking assignments. Hennigh doubles as an outside linebacker and is one of the top all-around players in 2A, capable of making as many tackles as he wants, while Smolinski patrols the secondary with six interceptions and three pick-sixes from a season ago. Defensive lineman Trevin Reneau (6-0, 230) plays with great effort up front, middle linebacker Colin McVay (6-0, 220) racked up 90 tackles, and outside linebacker Slade Smith (5-10, 180) was the team’s defensive MVP with 65 tackles and constant disruption. Cornerback Keegan Brown (6-1, 180) recorded four interceptions, including two against Millwood, and finds the football at a high rate. The Longhorns believe their speed, experience and depth can carry them deep into the postseason, and with a veteran core leading the way on both sides of the ball, Chisholm has legitimate championship aspirations in 2026.
