2025 Watonga Eagles Football Preview

WATONGA EAGLES

Coach: GREG JOHNSON

Last season: 1-9

OFFENSE

After a challenging 2024 season, the Watonga Eagles are focused on development, toughness, and competing every snap in 2025. Head coach Greg Johnson returns a solid core of athletes who are hungry to flip the script and lead the program in a new direction. Watonga’s offense will be led by quarterback Boomer Mendenhall (6-0, Sr.), who brings leadership and experience under center. Mendenhall has the tools to manage the game and deliver big plays when needed. His presence is expected to stabilize the offense and give the Eagles a confident leader in the huddle. At wide receiver, Wade Manke (6-2, Jr.) returns as a dangerous target with the athleticism to stretch the field and make highlight-worthy plays. Alongside him is Cooper House (6-0, Jr.), a versatile player who not only contributes as a reliable receiver but also stands out as one of Class 2A’s top kickers. House handles punting, kickoffs, and field goals with remarkable accuracy, making him a true weapon on special teams.

DEFENSE
On the defensive side of the ball, the Eagles are focused on limiting explosive plays and tightening up in the red zone. Manke and House will also play key roles at linebacker, bringing intensity, awareness, and physicality to the middle of the defense. Their ability to read plays and react quickly will be vital in anchoring a young unit.

Watonga will also look to promising underclassmen Ace Jones and Charles Black to step in and make an impact as the season progresses. With continued development, they could become future leaders for the Eagles.

Backed by assistant coaches Leroy Richardson, Easton Batt, and Derrick Jenkins, the Eagles are determined to build a competitive and disciplined team ready to take a step forward in 2025.
