GARBER WOLVERINES

Coach: KOY HUGHES

9-4

OFFENSE

The Wolverines are looking to make another deep run after advancing to the Class B-I semifinals last season. Head coach Koy Hughes acknowledges that while there will be some new faces on the field, expectations remain high. “We will look a lot different from 2024,” Hughes said. “We graduated eight seniors who have all been on the field the past four years; however, we return a lot of talent and look forward to competing in a tough class and the toughest district in the state.” Leading the way in the trenches will be offensive lineman Jason Smith (6-0, 260, Sr.), a dominant force who finished last season with 17 pancake blocks. He’ll once again be a key anchor up front. In the backfield, Aiden Johnson (5-8, 175, Jr.) steps into the quarterback role, bringing both athleticism and leadership. He closed out last season with 198 passing yards and five touchdowns and is poised to significantly increase those numbers this fall. The Wolverines also boast a powerful one-two punch at running back with Cord Southwick (5-11, 220, Jr.) and Elex Chester (5-8, 170, Sr.). The pair combined for 538 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, with Southwick adding 88 receiving yards and two scores.

On the perimeter, the Wolverines have a pair of dynamic playmakers in wide receivers Nic Najera (5-11, 155, Sr.) and Cayden Ramsey (5-10, 165, So.). Both are explosive athletes who will be counted on to stretch the field and make key contributions in the passing game. With a mix of returning talent and new energy, the Wolverines are geared up to be a contender once again.

DEFENSE

On the defensive side of the ball, the Wolverines will rely on their trademark strength and speed to shut down opposing offenses. After allowing just 17 points per game last season, this unit is determined to remain stingy with points. Patrolling the secondary will be the dynamic duo of Nic Najera and Cayden Ramsey, who combined for an impressive 113 tackles, seven tackles for loss, six interceptions, and four fumble recoveries. Both are high-impact players and natural leaders, setting the tone for the defense. Colton Deeds (5-10, 170, Sr.) will contribute at both linebacker and defensive back. He brings intensity and experience to the field, finishing last season with 33 solo tackles and four tackles for loss. Up front, the Wolverines feature a trio of disruptive defensive linemen in Jalan Stowers (5-11, 225, Sr.), Maison Metcalfe (6-0, 250, Jr.), and Cord Southwick. All three are physical, relentless, and know how to penetrate the backfield to create chaos. With a strong returning core and playmakers at every level, the Wolverines’ defense is poised to be a major factor again this season.
