Between juggling academics, band practice, and creative hobbies, Katelin Strohmeyer has found another place where her passions come to life, Northwest Technology Center in Alva, Oklahoma. The Waynoka High School junior is currently enrolled in the Digital Design program, where her artistic interests are taking shape in a whole new way.
Katelin first learned about Tech during her 8th-grade year when students were allowed to tour the campus and explore different career programs. Those early visits left an impression that stuck with her.
“I first heard about the tech through 8th-grade tours, and then more during sophomore tours,” Katelin said. “During each tour, we got to explore each program, and from there, I was hooked!”
Her decision to enroll in Digital Design came naturally. Having always gravitated toward creative expression, Katelin saw the program as the perfect fit to strengthen her skills and explore how design connects to real-world careers.
“I’ve always been passionate about the arts and knew that taking Digital Design would be right for me.”
At Northwest Technology Center, Katelin enjoys the opportunity to learn through hands-on projects. She appreciates the blend of creativity and professionalism that the program teaches, qualities she believes will benefit her long after high school.
“If you’re interested in learning new skills or practicing for your future career, then the tech might just be for you. All of the staff are polite, and the teachers love their students. It’s very hands-on, and I encourage everyone to try it for themselves.”
Though her current focus is in digital design, Katelin has big plans for the coming year and beyond. She intends to enroll in the BioMed program next year to prepare for her ultimate career goal, becoming a forensic pathologist.
Her experiences at Northwest Tech have already helped her build confidence while discovering how creativity and science can work hand in hand to shape her future. With strong support from her parents and a growing sense of direction, Katelin is proving that dedication and curiosity can open doors to limitless opportunities.
