Determination has been a main driver for Waynoka High School junior Devyn Seiger. Whether she’s driving down the basketball court or working on a design project at Northwest Technology Center in Alva, she is focused on accomplishing what is before her. Balancing sports, academics, and a technical education isn’t easy, but Devyn does it with energy and enthusiasm.
A dedicated basketball player, Devyn says what she enjoys most about competing is the connection with her teammates. “I enjoy the thrill of playing with people I bond with,” she said. One of her favorite memories came last year when Waynoka beat Timberlake. “It was such an exciting win, and it showed how much we had grown together as a team.”
Devyn draws inspiration from the people closest to her. “My biggest role model is my mom because she’s always been there, supporting me through my toughest times,” she said. “I also really look up to my friend Breya Beck, who went on to play college basketball. No matter how stressful the season got, she always cheered me up and reminded me not to take things too seriously.”
Outside of basketball, Devyn stays active in FCCLA and the National Honor Society, where she continues to grow her leadership and teamwork skills.
Her interest in technical education began during her sophomore year at Northwest Tech. “What made me interested was the Digital Design class, it just sounded so fun,” she said. “We got to make buttons that day, and I had a blast doing it.” Now a student in the Digital Design program, taught by Mrs. Jessica Schanbacher, Devyn is gaining valuable experience with creativity and technology.
“I’d tell anyone thinking about Tech to go for it,” she said. “It’s helped me get out of my comfort zone, make new friends, and have a little freedom from regular classes.”
Devyn says Tech is helping her build real-world skills. “I’m learning to communicate better and to work independently,” she said. While she’s still exploring what comes next after graduation, one thing is certain, Devyn’s dedication, creativity, and positive spirit will take her far, wherever her path leads.
