Leedey’s MaKinlee Carpenter – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Graft & Walraven Attorneys at Law

At Leedey High School, junior Makinlee Carpenter is making a name for herself as a driven and dedicated student-athlete. Competing in both softball and basketball, Makinlee is fueled by a deep love for the games and a personal desire to continually grow and improve. “The enjoyment of playing the sport I love and pushing myself to be better is what keeps me going,” she said.

Her success is no accident—it’s the result of countless hours of hard work and determination. One of the highlights of her athletic journey so far has been attending softball camps and being noticed by some of her dream colleges. “Those experiences showed me that the work I’m putting in is paying off,” she shared.

Makinlee is quick to credit her faith and the people who have supported her along the way. She names Merlanda Darman and Alicia Carpenter as two of her biggest role models. “They are Godly women and some of my biggest supporters,” she said. Faith plays a key role in Makinlee’s life, and she brings that same sense of purpose to the field, court, and classroom. She also finds inspiration from Sadie Robertson, whom she follows on social media. “I love listening to her talk about the word of God.”

Teacher and coach Eric Castle has also played a significant role in her development, especially in softball. “He’s always supportive in whatever I do, and that’s made a big impact,” she said.

A true competitor, Makinlee enjoys tough matchups against schools like Chattanooga and Arnett. “The games are always close, but we usually win when it matters,” she said. She also enjoys battling teammate Ansley Brown in practice, pushing each other while keeping things fun.

Outside of athletics, Makinlee is actively involved in the Business Professionals of America, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Friends of Rachel Club, National Honor Society, and serves as a class officer. Balancing it all takes discipline. “It takes a lot of weekly planning,” she said.

For Makinlee, representing Leedey is a privilege. “It means a lot knowing my school and community support me no matter the outcome,” she said. With faith at her core and a strong work ethic, Makinlee continues to set a powerful example for others to follow.
