Fairview’s Navaeh Mello – Presented by Northwest Technology Center

Northwest Technology Center offers area high school students the ability to get a head start on their future career. Navaeh Mello is taking advantage of the opportunity by taking the Health Careers program at the Fairview Campus.

“I chose the Health Careers program for the opportunity to learn how the human body functions,” Mello said. “I am thankful for the chance to go to Northwest Tech because it is giving me a way to further my education outside of the high school level.”

Mello first heard about Northwest Technology Center from Fairview High School, where she is a student. She knew she wanted to do it to help her in her future.
“I heard about the tech through my high school,” she said. “I thought it was a great opportunity to learn more to help me in college. I plan on going to a college, hopefully for track and field, and also to study Kinesiology.”

Navaeh has some advice for anyone considering attending Northwest Tech.

“Make sure that you are prepared to work hard,” she said.

At Fairview, Mello, a junior,  is a member of the powerlifting and track and field teams. She is also a part of HOSA-Future Health Professionals, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, and Upward Bound.

As an athlete, Mello says that she enjoys everything that goes into her competitions.

“I love the feeling of pushing myself beyond my limits,” she stated. “That moment when all the grueling training is put to the test against others. I think the highlight of my athletic career would be going to state in both of my sports and competing.”

There have been people that she has looked up to throughout her career, but Navaeh has one athlete that has had the biggest impact on her.

“My role model would be Florence Griffith Joyner,” she said. “She is the very first track and field athlete that I have ever wanted to be like. She is the reason I started running.”
