Fairview’s Harlee Hamar

By Angela Brunk

Fairview High School junior Harlee Hamar is ready to make her mark this basketball season. A combo guard who is known for her versatility, athleticism, and leadership, Hamar enters the year with high expectations for both herself and her team. Her main goal is to help the team win as many games as possible and hopefully, bring home a state championship.

“We’re playing several good teams this year, like Alva, Seiling, Okarche, and Dale,” Hamar shared. “I’m really looking forward to seeing how well we can compete with them and finding ways to beat them.”

Her competitive spirit is clearly driven by a simple but powerful motivation to win. Hamar’s foundation for success is built on consistency and discipline, values she says have been key throughout her basketball career. That hard work paid off last season when Fairview won over 20 games for the first time in several years, a milestone the team hopes to build upon. A highlight moment from that run was Hamar’s buzzer-beater against Pawhuska in the first round of area, an unforgettable memory for both her and her teammates.

Off the court, Hamar credits her faith in God and her parents as her biggest influences.

“My faith is the root of everything I do,” she said. “God gives me the ability to do everything I do, and my parents have instilled humility, hard work, and discipline in me.”

She also points to her leadership/student council teacher as someone who has deeply impacted her life by demonstrating Christ-like leadership and encouraging students to work together to achieve their goals.

During the offseason, Hamar spent countless hours in the gym improving her shooting, attending camps, and training in the weight room to become stronger and faster. Outside of basketball, she’s involved in track, student council, FCA, NHS, and her FBC Youth Group, showing her commitment to excellence in all areas.

Looking ahead, Hamar plans to attend college and hopes to continue playing basketball. Hamar has a bright outlook for the future with high praise from Coach Mallory.

“She’s one of the most athletic kids I’ve ever coached,” said Mallory. “She can play almost any position, competes on both sides of the ball, and continues to improve every year. Aside from being a great player, she’s an even better person.”

Fairview fans can expect big things from Harlee Hamar this season, both on and off the court.
