Fairview’s Haddon Miller
By Angela Brunk
Fairview High School junior Haddon Miller is entering the basketball season with determination and focus. Playing as a guard, Miller has his sights set on continual growth, not only as a player but as a leader and teammate.
“I would like to improve every aspect of my game. Like leadership, ball handling, and scoring,” he said.
“As a team, we want to win state, but making the state tournament would be a big step for Fairview men’s basketball.”
One of the matchups he’s most looking forward to this season is the challenge of facing Dale.
“I’m really looking forward to this challenge because of how good they are,” Miller said. That competitive drive comes from deep within.
“What motivates me is wanting to be the best version of me that I can,” he added.
“I want to play as well and as hard as I can with what God has provided me with.”
Miller’s influences are rooted in faith, family, and the teammates who came before him. The seniors who graduated last year left a lasting impact on Miller, especially his brother, Boden.
“He pushed me past my limits every day and showed me how to give God the glory through it all,” he said. “Guys like Jax Bernard, Easton Hamar, and Grant Church also showed me how to win.”
His parents, he added, inspire him daily through their love and hard work. Miller also credits Mrs. Emilee Nelson for teaching him to “stand up for the little guys,” while her husband, Coach Nelson, motivates him in the weight room.
Hours of dedication, overcoming adversity, and early-morning workouts have shaped Miller into the player he is today. One of his fondest memories came last season when he hit the game-winning shot against Morrison, sending Fairview to the regional finals.
Beyond basketball, Miller plays football and baseball, serves as vice president of student council, president of FCA, and is active in NHS and his Fairview First Baptist Youth Group.
Coach Barton describes him best: “Haddon is our Swiss Army knife. He can do so many things for our team — drive, shoot, pass, post up, and defend. As our point guard, his role changes and adapts every time he steps on the floor.”
With heart, versatility, and faith leading the way, Haddon Miller is set to make a lasting impact on Fairview basketball.
