Alex Houk is a dedicated student-athlete at Fairview High School, where he will be entering his junior year. He plays football, basketball, and runs track, excelling as a running back and outside linebacker. Driven by the fear of letting his team down, Alex pushes himself to be the best he can be. His biggest influences are his brothers, Drew and Austin Houk, who continuously push him toward greatness and never let him fail, no matter how difficult things get. Another major influence has been his former quarterback, Jax Bernard, who always lifted him up after mistakes and celebrated his victories with him. Among his teachers, Mrs. Stephanie Ewald, his English teacher, has made the biggest impact. She expects nothing but his best and goes out of her way to help her students succeed.
Alex believes that doing the small things right builds a strong foundation, which has led his team to great success. One of his most memorable moments on the field was a breakout run in the third quarter of a playoff game against Rejoice Christian, which helped energize the crowd and gave his team hope. Beating tough opponents like Hooker is always satisfying for Alex, especially knowing they’re one of the top teams in Class A and that every matchup with them feels like a championship game. One of his favorite teammates is Ridge Cottrill, a hardworking and passionate player who lines up at inside linebacker and offensive line, someone Alex will be relying on heavily this year.
Outside of sports, Alex is actively involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, National Honor Society, FFA, and serves as a class officer. He’s inspired by motivational quotes from an account called “Mentality,” and credits his mom for helping him balance all of his commitments by keeping him organized and focused. Grateful for every opportunity, Alex sees each day as a chance to reflect the love of Jesus Christ in everything he does. Representing his town means everything to him; he cherishes the opportunity to inspire younger Yellowjackets just like older players once inspired him. Looking ahead, Alex hopes to play college football and one day return to Fairview as a high school coach, giving back to the community that has given him so much.
