Fairview High School senior Laynie Gosney has embraced a uniquely busy and impactful role on campus, balancing multiple sports, leadership positions, and community involvement while maintaining a clear sense of purpose. On the field, she is a standout in fast–pitch and slow–pitch softball, primarily anchoring first base but remaining ready to shift to the outfield or third base whenever needed. She also competes in track and contributes to the basketball program as team manager, giving her a year–round presence in Fairview athletics. The variety of roles has taught her adaptability and reinforced her belief that every contribution, whether on the field or behind the scenes, matters to the overall success of a team.
Gosney’s motivation extends beyond wins and statistics. She views athletics as an avenue for daily growth, striving to improve as an athlete and as a person by challenging herself and embracing the demands of competition. Her faith plays a central role, as she aims to use the talents she has been given in a way that honors a higher purpose. Key influences in her life include her mother, whose kindness and selfless nature provide a living example of how to treat others, and her youth pastor Frank and his wife Millie, who have helped her deepen her faith while offering unwavering support. Together, they have shaped Gosney’s understanding that true success is measured not only by achievements but by the positive impact one makes on the lives around them.
Educators have also left a lasting mark on Gosney’s journey. A sixth–grade math teacher and her agricultural education advisor encouraged her to believe in herself, work hard, and lead with kindness, building confidence that has carried into every arena she enters. That leadership is evident in her roles as President of the Fairview FFA chapter, Vice President of National Honor Society, class officer, FCA member, and active participant in MB Youth Group, as well as through showing pigs in FFA. One of her favorite athletic memories is a home run over the fence in a district game against Dale, a moment that symbolized years of effort and perseverance. Balancing such a full schedule requires discipline, time management, and clear priorities, but Gosney welcomes the challenge. Every time she takes the field, she aims to represent Fairview with integrity, sportsmanship, and a strong work ethic, setting a standard she hopes younger athletes will follow.
