Cherokee’s Talyn Allison

Juggling school, sports and FFA activities can be challenging but Talyn Allison says it’s worth it. Allison is a junior power forward on her basketball team and the reporter for the Cherokee FFA chapter. Basketball and FFA positively impact her life.

“Basketball has taught me teamwork, discipline and how to work through challenges, while FFA has helped me build leadership skills and confidence. Both have helped me grow as a person and prepare for my future,” Allison said.

Allison tells other students not to be afraid to be in both FFA and athletics.

“Even when things get mixed up, I find a way to handle it and make it all work out,” she says.

The best part about being involved in multiple activities, she says, is taking on leadership roles and learning new things. She has gained confidence, responsibility and real-life skills through these experiences.

“Just go for it. Sports and FFA push you to try new things, meet new people and grow in ways you don’t expect. There’s really no better time than now to challenge yourself and make the most of the opportunities you have,” she says.

Allison loves basketball. Bonding with her team has taught her that there is more to the game than just winning. The teammate who has left the biggest impression is Veronica Castro.

“She works hard, no matter what gets thrown at her and leads by example without saying much. Me and her see eye to eye on a lot of things. She’s not only a great teammate but also a good friend,” Allison said.

The person who most inspires Allison is her mom.

“She works full-time while raising five kids, yet she never misses any of my events. She’s always there to support me and give guidance when I need it. Her hard work, dedication and love motivate me to do my best every day,” Allison praised.

The best part about being involved in school sports and FFA, she says, is taking on leadership roles. She finds it rewarding to make a positive impact on a school and community that believes in her.
