Cherokee High School’s Jaydan Petersen has a passion for playing basketball. Currently a senior, Jaydan plays the positions of point guard and shooting guard for the Cherokee High School Chiefs. Many would consider Jaydan a basketball veteran, having played the sport for 13 years.
Jaydan is proud to represent his school and community every time he is on the basketball court. Jaydan proclaimed, “It means a lot to me to represent my school and community, knowing that I can help the younger kids get better. It is a wonderful feeling to inspire the younger kids to carry on traditions.”
When it comes to role models, Jaydan looks towards family as the source. Jaydan stated, “My mom, dad, and step mom are my biggest role models, because they have always pushed me to be my best, and have been by my side throughout my career.
As far as what motivates him, Jaydan explained, “The love for the game is what motivates me the most.”
In regards to what it has taken to become successful in basketball, Jaydan stated, “It has taken a lot of hard work, practice, dedication, and commitment to be successful.”
Many memories are made in high school athletics. For Jaydan, one particular memory stood out the most. Jaydan recalled, “My favorite memory in sports thus far, was hitting the winning shot at the buzzer, during my sophomore year against Canton.”
There is one professional basketball player that Jaydan looks up to as an athlete, as well as someone with a social media presence. Jaydan stated, “I look up to Golden State Warrior basketball player Stephen Curry because, he inspires me to be better.”
After graduating from high school, Jaydan plans on pursuing higher education, while continuing to play basketball. Jaydan stated, “I want to go on to college, and play basketball and, obtain a degree in criminal justice.”
Jaydan has the following advice for everyone. Jaydan stated, “Follow your dreams, work hard, and never stop chasing your goals.”
