Cherokee’s Cade Smith

For senior Cade Smith, the best thing about Cherokee High is the wide range of activities it has to offer, from FFA and FCCLA to Friday night football games. “There’s always something to be involved in,” he said. Cade has made the most of his time in his small community by competing in football and participating in Agriculture.
During his senior year, Cade has found it a little bit easier to balance his workload. “I don’t have as much schoolwork this year compared to previous years, so it gives me more time for football and FFA,” he said.
Football and agriculture are both a huge part of Cade’s life, and he’s learned to do both with dedication and pride. He grew up around farming and cattle, so joining FFA was a quick and easy choice.
“I thought it would be a great way to learn more about agriculture,” he explained.
On the football field, Cade plays center, a role he takes seriously. “I enjoy leading the offensive line and creating big gaps for the running back or quarterback to make a touchdown,” he said.
Injuries have been the most challenging part of football, but Cade has learned to push through them with toughness. He says football has taught him teamwork and leadership. “Being center requires communication with the other linemen and making sure everyone knows who to block,” he said.
Cade’s biggest influence is his dad, who has worked with cattle his whole life and built a great operation.
“He’s the reason I want to go into agriculture after high school,” Cade said.
His agriculture teacher, Mrs. Snider has also played an important role, showing him how to take pride in his work and give his best on all things he does. Cade’s favorite FFA memory is going to the state convention with friends. Cherokee’s community support means a lot to Cade.
“Everyone always comes out on game days, and it makes the games so enjoyable,” he said.
After graduation, Cade plans to continue his agricultural journey by raising his own cows and running stocker calves. He will be carrying the lessons of teamwork and hard work to the next step in his life.
