Alva’s Payton Smith – Presented by Northwest Technology Center

Payton Smith is looking to get into the medical field for her career. And in order to accomplish that, she is getting a head start by taking the Biomed program at Northwest Technology Center.

“I want to become a nurse and the Biomed program is a head start on that,” she said. “Tech is preparing me for my future because the program is directed towards students who want to pursue a career in the medical field.”

A junior at Alva High School, Payton heard about tech from her parents. She has taken other classes there before entering the Biomed program.

“I first heard about tech from my parents,” she said. “I took computers and business here my sophomore year and I really wanted to come back.”

Smith is thankful for the opportunity that she has as a student at Northwest Tech and she encourages others to check it out.

“Enroll in tech,” she stated. “The atmosphere at the tech center is amazing. Everyone wants what’s best for you. The tech center is a different way of teaching and is very hands on.”

At Alva, Payton is a member of the soccer team. She is also involved in the Student Council, Key Club, and she is a manager for the football team.

On the soccer team, Smith is thankful to be able to play with such a great group of people that she gets to make great memories with.

“I love being able to play with my teammates,” she said. “The most memorable moment in my career is whenever we beat Cordell in a penalty kick shootout. We went into double overtime and it was definitely a game I will never forget.”

There have been people in her life that have helped Payton become the player and person that she is today. But she says that there are two people that have played the largest part.

“My biggest role models are my parents because they keep me going,” she said. “They have always been there for me and been encouraging.”
