Alva’s Kylie Adair
By Angela Brunk
As Alva High School senior Kylie Adair gears up for her final basketball season, she’s focused on leaving it all on the court. Adair will take on the role of point guard, a position that suits her leadership, determination, and team-first mentality perfectly.
“This season, my main goals are to work hard every day, be the best leader I can be, and help my team get back to the Big House for the fourth year in a row,” Adair said. “Individually, I want to keep improving my defense and average a couple of steals per game.”
That dedication and drive are nothing new for Adair, who’s been a consistent contributor to Alva’s success over the years. The team has built a reputation as one of the top programs in the area, and Adair has been at the center of that success. One of her favorite moments came last season when Alva defeated Keys in the state quarterfinals. The team qualified for state the past two years, but last year was a highlight since the team made it further in the tournament.
Adair spent her offseason sharpening her skills through Coach Jones’ 10,000-shot and dribbling workouts, determined to expand her offensive impact.
“I worked hard to get all my shots in and improve my dribbling,” she said.
Last season, Adair was proud to help her team capture their regional and area championships, a state semifinal finish, and an impressive showing at the Mustang Tournament. This season, Adair is especially excited for the Dale Tournament, where Alva will face some of the state’s toughest competition.
“There’s going to be a bunch of great teams there,” she said. “I’m excited to see what we can do.”
Off the court, Adair stays busy running track and cross country, playing golf, and participating in student council, Key Club, National Honor Society, and is a member of the First Baptist Church in Alva.
Adair’s basketball journey began back in second grade at the local rec center, where she first fell in love with the game. That early spark has carried her all the way to a college commitment. She’s set to continue her basketball career and education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, where she’ll major in biology with plans to become a physician assistant.
Coach Jones shared the following about Adair.
“Kylie adjusts to whatever I need her to do. She just says, ‘Yes sir,’ and goes out to do the best she can. I’ve been blessed to coach her.”
At Alva High School, Kylie Adair isn’t just leading her team, she’s leaving a legacy built on hard work, humility, and heart.
