Alva’s Kaylen Woods – Student Spotlight – Presented by Northwest Technology Center

Balancing high school, sports, FFA, and advanced courses isn’t easy, but for Alva High School junior Kaylen Woods, it’s all part of a life built around passion, discipline, and curiosity. In addition to being a dedicated student-athlete, Kaylen is also thriving as a Northwest Technology Center Bio-Med student, preparing herself for a promising future in the medical field.

“My favorite part about Tech is that it gives me tools I’ll use long after high school,” Kaylen says. “It’s preparing me for my career and helping me focus on what I really want to do.”

Kaylen’s interest in the medical field began early, and when she toured Northwest Tech back in eighth grade, she immediately knew it was the place for her. “The Bio-Med program stood out because I’ve always been interested in science and helping people,” she explains. Through this program, she’s gained hands-on experience, learning about anatomy, lab work, and the realities of health science careers — all while managing her busy schedule at Alva High.

In addition to academics, Kaylen shines as a three-sport athlete in golf, softball, and basketball. Golf, she says, holds a special place in her heart. “It’s just me against the course,” she says. “I love finding ways to improve.” Her most memorable moment so far? Qualifying for the state golf tournament last year and celebrating back-to-back State Academic Championships.

Outside of the classroom and sports, Kaylen is deeply involved in FFA, serving as chapter sentinel, along with Student Council, Key Club, and her church youth group. She also shows goats and plays travel softball for the Enid Bruins.

After graduation, Kaylen plans to attend Oklahoma City University, where she hopes to play softball and earn a degree in biology. With her drive and dedication, there’s no doubt she’ll continue to excel. “Tech has given me the confidence and skills to chase my goals,” she says. “It’s been an amazing experience.”
