Alva’s Kaylen Woods – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Northwest Technology Center

Balancing the demands of academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities is no easy task, but for Alva High School junior Kaylen Woods, it’s a challenge she embraces with determination. A three-sport athlete who plays softball, basketball, and golf, Kaylen thrives on competition. “The thing I enjoy most about competing is that I am always being pushed to be better,” she said. “As a competitor, I am always looking for ways to improve.”

Her hard work has paid off, with standout moments like winning regionals two years in a row in softball and experiencing the excitement of playing at the state basketball tournament in “the Big House.” Those memories fuel her drive both on and off the field. She credits her parents as her biggest role models, saying, “They are always there for me and have taught me so much.”

Beyond sports, Kaylen is actively involved in her school and community. She serves as the FFA chapter sentinel, participates in Student Council and Key Club, and even shows goats through FFA. One of her most impactful commitments is her involvement at Northwest Technology Center in Alva, where she is enrolled in the Bio-Med program.

Kaylen first learned about Tech during an eighth-grade campus tour and immediately recognized the opportunities it could provide. “I have always been interested in going into the medical field after high school, and this program is a great tool to get there,” she explained. She describes Tech as an incredible experience and encourages other students to take advantage of the programs available. “The Tech offers so many different opportunities in so many different fields,” she said.

The Bio-Med program is already shaping her path forward. “The Tech is preparing me for my future by giving me the tools I need for success,” Kaylen shared. After graduation, she plans to attend a university to pursue a biology degree while continuing her softball career.

Whether she’s on the field competing, leading in her school clubs, or preparing for a future in the medical field, Kaylen Woods is proving that dedication and balance can lead to success in every area of life.
