For senior midfielder Kade Parker, the soccer field is more than just a place to play. It is where he has spent a decade developing his skills, creating bonds with teammates, and growing into a leader both on and off the pitch.
As he prepares for his final high school season at Alva High School, Parker is focused on leaving his mark and helping his team achieve its goals.
“This season means everything,” Parker said. “I want to enjoy every moment, help my teammates succeed and make the most of my last year on the field.”
Parker’s role has evolved each season, from a freshman learning under upperclassmen to a junior stepping into a leadership role, he has steadily grown into a key player for the team. Now, as a senior captain, he’s focused on bringing his team together.
“We only give the captain role to seniors, and it goes to players who lead by example,” Parker said. “For me, that means putting the team first, communicating well, and making sure everyone is on the same page.”
Parker’s leadership extends beyond soccer. A standout student, he is involved in choir, speech and debate team, and even plays in a band with friends.
Balancing athletics with academics and extracurricular activities requires discipline, but Parker credits his community and supportive teachers for helping him manage it all.
“I’m lucky to be surrounded by people who want to see me succeed,” Parker said. “If I ever need help catching up, there’s always someone willing to lend a hand.”
Parker’s biggest inspiration comes from his father, who serves as the chief financial officer at the local hospital and as Alva’s mayor. Watching his father lead their community has shaped Parker’s own approach to leadership.
“My dad listens to everyone, even when they’re critical of him,” Parker said. “He stays calm, finds solutions, and never backs down from a challenge. That’s the kind of leader I want to be.”
After high school, Parker plans to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University to pursue a degree in mathematics education. While his soccer career will end after this season, his passion for leadership will continue in the classroom and beyond.
“I’m excited for this next stage of my life,” Parker said. “I want to take what I have learned from sports and use it to make a difference in my community.”
