Alva’s Hadlee Ohm – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Oklahoma Farm Bureau Insurance

For Alva High School senior Hadlee Ohm, basketball isn’t just a sport, it’s part of her family’s heritage. When asked what first got her interested in basketball, Hadlee answered, “It’s in my blood.”

She started playing basketball around first grade and has been playing year-round since fifth grade. She also played soccer when she was younger and softball through middle school but has solely dedicated herself to basketball since ninth grade. She tells VYPE that playing multiple sports helped her mentally mature, develop great coachability, and taught her to be a team player.

That foundation in teamwork has made her especially appreciative of the bonds she’s built on the court. When asked what her teammates mean to her, Hadlee says, “They mean everything. These are the girls I have grown up with, played with, and made all of my memories with throughout my career.”

Those strong bonds and teamwork have led to some unforgettable moments. One of Hadlee’s favorite memories came during her freshman year when her team made it to the state tournament despite having no seniors. Hadlee has not missed a single tournament in her high school career and counts it as luck that she has played on the Big House floor three years in a row. She was also named All-Conference last year during her junior season.

Hadlee says she really enjoys playoffs because she loves the high pressure and tougher competition they bring. To prepare for big games, she enjoys a chicken bacon ranch sandwich while reading a pregame paragraph from her mom. Beyond the pregame routines and the thrill of game day, Hadlee draws her motivation from something bigger than herself. She draws it from her family, her community, and the pride of representing Alva High School.

“There is no other team that has the support or following of their community as we do in Alva,” Hadlee reflects.

Off the court, Hadlee’s dedication and leadership shine just as brightly. Known for her calm, collected demeanor and positive attitude, she approaches both school and life with the same focus and determination she brings to basketball.

English has been her favorite subject throughout middle and high school, thanks to inspiring teachers who encouraged her love for reading and writing. Beyond academics, Hadlee participates in OneAct theater, which became one of her favorite parts of high school. She has also been an active member of the student council every year of middle and high school, attended multiple leadership camps, and participates in her church youth groups, embracing every opportunity to grow, lead, and connect with others.

After high school, Hadlee would love to play college basketball. She also hopes to pursue a high-adrenaline career in the healthcare field, combining her competitive spirit with her passion for helping others.
