The Lady Goldbugs are looking to make a return trip to the state tournament this season. With some familiar faces back, head coach Jeremy Jones is looking forward to what his team will do this year. “We have three returning starters back this season,” he said. “Two of those, Lakin Gaddy and Jaycee Kelln, were our leading scorers last season. We only have three seniors but some really good young talent. My second year as the coach, I am really excited to see what we can do defensively and how much the girls have learned in a year.”
Gaddy (5-6, Sr.) is a hard worker and a great student. She loves to compete and has been successful in all of her sports as well as her academics. She has the opportunity to compete at the next level in both basketball and track. Looking to make an impact this season is Hadlee Ohm (6-1, Jr.). She is a post that can shoot mid range. She is really strong inside and can go right and left in the post.
She will have a big year for Alva. Preslie Jones (6-1, So.) is long and athletic and has a great basketball IQ. She shoots the three well and will be a key in getting rebounds this year. Asia Blackledge (5-9, Jr.) can take charges, get rebounds, will dive on the floor, and plays defense. Other members of the team to watch for this season are Kelln (5-8, Sr.), Kylie Adair (5-8, Jr.), Channing Ferguson (5-8, Jr.), Kambri Rhodes (5-6, Jr.), Lyndee Fraire (5-7, Sr.), Madison Blocker (5-6, So.), Kaylen Woods (5-9, So.), Mylee Nettles (5-9, So.), Trinity Stevens (5-8, So.), and Destinee Phillips (5-9, So.).
