There is a quiet confidence surrounding Alva football entering the 2026 season, and the Goldbugs believe experience could be the difference-maker in turning close games into victories. After a 3-7 campaign a year ago, head coach Ryne Wilson sees a group returning with valuable game reps and leadership ready to take the next step.
“We are excited about the new season,” Wilson said. “We bring back a lot of guys with playing experience from this last year. We look to get better each game, be more competitive, and try to go out and surprise some people.”
The offense returns eight starters and will feature a new look as Alva transitions from its traditional flexbone attack into a spread option offense built around getting playmakers into open space. Senior running back Tripp Cole (5-10, 160) figures to be the centerpiece after rushing for 671 yards and eight touchdowns while proving himself as one of the team’s most versatile weapons. Senior receiver Keiden Kimberly (6-1, 170) contributed 219 receiving yards and added value on the ground, while senior wideout Keaton Adair (6-2, 160) hauled in 29 receptions for 401 yards and two scores. Sophomore quarterback Ashton Ferrell (6-1, 170) started six games as a freshman, throwing for 787 yards and five touchdowns, giving the Goldbugs optimism at the position. Sophomore receiver Jett Kelln (6-3, 180) also returns after flashing big-play potential as a freshman and is expected to take on a larger role this fall. Senior Coleman Gaisford (6-0, 140) adds another experienced option in the offense.
Defensively, seven starters are back as Alva plans to attack out of a 4-4 scheme built on speed and physicality. Senior defensive end Maddux Beck (6-5, 210) anchors the front, while Cole returns at linebacker after finishing among the team’s top tacklers. Junior linebacker Brynden Hunt (5-10, 170) and senior lineman Scott Church (5-10, 200) provide toughness in the middle, while senior Tucker Hannaford (6-1, 180) and junior Gunner Pingelton (5-10, 150) give the Goldbugs versatility on the edge. With senior leadership and young talent emerging, Alva hopes to surprise opponents throughout the season.
