Deer Creek-Lamont’s Dawson Scott
Deer Creek-Lamont senior Dawson Scott brings a blue-collar mindset to everything he
does, whether he is grinding through practice or clocking hours at work. It is an approach
shaped by the man he calls his greatest inspiration, his great-grandfather, Earl Allen.
“He was a very hardworking man and was a great athlete,” Scott said. “He would work with
me day in and day out.” That example helped mold Scott into a leader for the Eagles, where
he values effort as much as any box-score line. What he enjoys most about being part of the
program is the daily push from his teammates.
“How hard we push one another,” Scott said. “We make each other better every day.” That
competitive edge shows up in everything from practice drills to casual shooting games. If
there is one teammate who might get the best of him in a game of P-I-G, Scott points to
Brice Bledsoe.
On a roster full of personalities, Scott does not hesitate when asked who keeps the gym
loud and loose. “Most vocal teammate, I’ll have to go with Logan,” he said. “Teammate that
keeps people laughing, Tripp or Green Bean.” That mix of voices helps carry Deer Creek-
Lamont into some of the toughest road environments on the schedule.
“The toughest gym on the road is definitely Lomega,” Scott said. “Crazy atmosphere there.”
Away from games, Scott said he spends most of his free time either working or putting in
extra time on sports. In the classroom, his favorite subject is esports, and he lists Ms. Mills
as his favorite teacher.
Scott said athletics has taught him that “you are going to have your ups and downs, but no
matter what you have to give it your all every single day because you never know when it’s
your last day.” As for the greatest basketball player of all time, Scott does not hesitate there,
either. “Steph Curry, no doubt,” he said with a laugh.
