As just a freshman at Hennessey High School, Julianne Matousek is already making her presence felt on the track. Competing in a demanding slate of events that includes the 800-meter run, the mile, the two-mile, and the two-mile relay, Julianne has quickly proven she has both the endurance and determination to compete at a high level. Her early success is a reflection of not only her natural ability but also the work ethic and mindset she brings to every practice and race.
One of Julianne’s proudest accomplishments so far came when she qualified for the 2026 indoor track state championships in the mile. For a ninth grader, reaching that level of competition is no small feat. It represents hours of unseen work, from early morning runs to grueling workouts, all building toward moments when she can test herself against the best.
Running track and cross country has shaped Julianne into more than just a strong competitor. It has helped her develop a mindset that carries into all areas of her life.
“Running track and cross country has taught me that it is very important to have a positive mindset and attitude through every circumstance even when things get hard.”
That positivity is something she not only values personally, but also brings to her team. Julianne sees herself as a leader, someone who leads by example with consistent effort and encouragement for those around her. She credits teammates like her cross country teammate Emma for helping push her to be better, while also recognizing the impact of her favorite teachers, Mrs. Hardin and Mrs. Briley, who made a lasting impression in the classroom.
Her motivation also comes from close to home.
“My parents inspire me because they work so hard everyday for me and my siblings and they inspire me to always work my hardest.”
Julianne takes pride in representing Hennessey High School, especially knowing the dedication it takes to succeed in her sport. With a strong foundation of faith, family, and perseverance, she continues to chase her goals while embracing every step of the journey.
