Chisholm’s Cooper Westfahl
By Angela Brunk
At Chisholm High School, Cooper Westfahl is a talented athlete in the class of 2026. A guard on a mission this season, not just for himself, but for his team. Known for his scoring ability, leadership, and work ethic, Westfahl has set big goals for the upcoming year.
“As a team, I want us to make it to the state tournament,” Westfahl shared. Individually, Westfahl has his sights set on a goal of 1,500 points.
Westfahl’s competitive drive shines brightest during tough matchups, and one competition he’s especially looking forward to is the Wheat Capital Tournament. This tournament attracts tough competition and offers the team an opportunity to test its skills against opponents.
Behind every great athlete is a foundation of strong support and mentorship, and for Westfahl, that starts at home. One of Westfahl’s biggest influences in his life is his dad. He also credits Coach Hibler, who has guided him both on and off the court.
“Coach Hibler has always pushed me to be the best version of myself, on and off the court,” Westfahl explained.
In the classroom, Mr. Hula stands out as another key figure in Westfahl’s life.
“He taught me more than just science,” Westfahl said. “He taught me how to be a better person and how to apply things in the real world.”
When asked what it takes to be successful, Westfahl doesn’t hesitate with his answer. Consistency is the biggest thing. Westfahl’s success has come because he keeps showing up, putting in the work, even when it’s hard. That mindset has paid off in a big way. One of his proudest accomplishments was being named MVP of their conference, a testament to his steady performance and leadership.
Last season, Westfahl scored 615 points, including a standout 42-point game against Woodward. This was a performance that showcased his scoring ability and poise under pressure.
During the offseason, Westfahl gained valuable experience playing tougher competition with Team Griffin, an opportunity that helped him elevate his game. Outside of sports, he enjoys spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, balancing his competitive edge with a love for nature. Looking toward the future, Westfahl plans to play basketball at the college level while pursuing a degree in agriculture.
Basketball has always been a constant for Westfahl, even from a young age.
“When I was younger, I played multiple sports,” he said, “but I’ve always loved basketball.” With his determination, faith, and consistency, there’s no doubt that Cooper Westfahl will continue to make a name for himself and for Chisholm High School this season and beyond.
