HOOKER LADY BULLDOGS
Coach: AUSTIN ELLIOTT
2024-25 Record: 19-8
The Hooker Lady Bulldogs basketball team will be a force to contend with this year. They return two starters coming back from a team that advanced to the area consolation game, as well as three more girls who got a lot of court time.
“We should be very good on defense,” said head coach Austin Elliot.
The senior leadership of the team will lie with Brynlee Williams, Rubi Hernandez, Yedelin DeHerrera, Mollie Baird, Gisela Gomez, and Allie Metcalf.
Rubi Hernandez is a VYPE Top 100 nominee and three-year starter. She came off the bench her freshmen year for a team that made it to the state quarterfinals game. Her teams advanced to the area tournament in both her sophomore and junior year.
“Rubi has been the second leading scorer her sophomore and junior year,” said coach Elliot. “She will be asked to be our leading scorer this year. Not only is Rubi a really good offensive player she is an exceptional defensive player. She is asked to guard the other team’s best player.”
Allie Metcalf is another three-year starter for the Lady Dogs who will be relied upon this season.
“Allie is one of the best post defenders that I have coached,” said coach Elliot. “I know that I can count on her to get the job done. If I had to leave practice for any reason, I know that I could count on her to run practice for me.”
Juniors on the team who will have chances to step up are Ana DeHerrera, Summer Fischer, Josie Davis, and Dulce Rios. Adding depth to the roster are sophomores Finley Duncan, Ember Stevens, Kimberly Moreno, and Marisa Borunda. The freshmen prospects include Selah Fischer, Lerady Medina, Mya Brown, and Baxleigh Rowlan.
Finley Duncan is noted as an underclassman to watch. She came off the bench her freshmen year on a team that advanced to the area consolation game.
“She will move into a starting role for this year’s team,” said coach Elliot. “She will be highly counted on to score and defend.”
