Q&A with Mooreland’s Dean Friend – Presented by Great Plains Bank

VYPE: How long have you competed in cross country? What first got you interested in the sport?

Dean: I have competed in XC for six years now. Running 5k’s and fun runs with my dad is what got me interested.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite memory in your time competing for your high school?

Dean: A favorite memory I have is running at the OSU Jamboree.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite opponent to compete against? If so, why?

Dean: Yes, Talan Sutton, who is actually now a teammate, because we have been running around the same times since freshman year.

VYPE: What do your teammates mean to you? Is there anyone on the team who pushes you to sharpen your skills?

Dean: My team to me is more like a family. Yes, I feel like all of us push each other to be better.

VYPE: Do you have any pre-game or post-game rituals?

Dean: Before each meet I always pray on the starting line.

VYPE: Who do you look to as a role model?

Dean: My mom because she does everything she can to take care of me. My dad is also a big role model to me because he shows what it means to work hard.

VYPE: Are you involved in any other sports or activities?

Dean: I’m involved in FFA, track, and golf.

VYPE: What are your plans after high school?

Dean: After high school I would like to work towards getting my real estate license and possibly make custom cabinets.
