Emily McEachern, a junior at Canton High School, is making the most of her high school experience both in the classroom and through her involvement with Northwest Tech in Fairview. Balancing basketball, track & field, and a busy school schedule, Emily has embraced every opportunity to grow academically, athletically, and professionally.
At Northwest Tech, Emily is enrolled in the Health Careers program, where she is gaining hands-on experience and insight into the medical field. “My high school encouraged me to explore Tech, and I wanted to get a jump start on my career,” she said. “It’s given me an opportunity to step foot into positions I might be considering.” From practicing essential health skills to learning the day-to-day responsibilities of medical professionals, Emily says the program is shaping her understanding of what it takes to succeed in the healthcare field.
Her leadership extends beyond the classroom and lab. Emily serves as president of FCCLA, captain of FCA, and reporter for STUCO. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Torch and Laurel Honor Society. “Being involved in so many organizations has helped me build confidence, leadership skills, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities,” she explained.
Athletics remain an important part of Emily’s life. She enjoys the sense of community that comes with being on a team and treasures her most memorable moment on the basketball court: winning the Buffalo tournament. She also credits her biggest influence, former teammate Imiyah Littlejohn, with teaching her perseverance and determination.
Looking ahead, Emily plans to continue her education and pursue a medical degree. Reflecting on her Tech experience, she encourages other students to take the leap: “Just try it! You’ll get experiences and opportunities you might not have anywhere else.”
Through her involvement with Northwest Tech and her leadership roles at Canton High School, Emily is building a strong foundation for a future in healthcare, proving that dedication, curiosity, and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone can lead to incredible growth.
