Waynoka’s Ava Watson – Student Spotlight – Presented by Northwest Technology Center

For Waynoka High School junior Ava Watson, Northwest Technology Center in Alva has become more than just a place to take classes, it’s a place where her future is taking shape. Currently enrolled in the Health Careers program with a focus on veterinary assisting, Ava is pursuing a passion that has been part of her life since she was young.

“I grew up always being around animals,” Ava shared. “I was around the average cats and dogs, but I was also around different exotic animals such as hedgehogs and skunks. I found a love for caring for them at a young age, so it was an interest that was pretty clear for me.”

Her connection to Tech started even earlier than most. Her dad teaches mechanics at the Fairview Tech Center, which allowed her to see firsthand the kind of learning environment Tech provides. “It seemed like a fun place with a lot of opportunities,” she said. That impression has proven true, as she now dives deeper into veterinary training while still in high school.

Ava appreciates how Tech gives students real-world experiences and direction for the future. “I would tell someone considering Tech that there are so many opportunities to pursue. It’s a great way to get certain credits with a class you enjoy, and it can help show different career options that give you an idea of what it’s like,” she explained.

Her experience at Northwest Tech is already shaping her career goals. Ava dreams of becoming a veterinarian, and she says her time in the program is preparing her for the schooling and dedication that lie ahead. “This helps show me what it’ll be like and the schooling processes,” she said. “I’ve already learned so much, and I believe it’s going to help in the long run.”

After graduation, Ava plans to attend college and work toward becoming a veterinarian. Eventually, she hopes to own her own clinic. She knows it will take hard work and determination, but she’s ready for the challenge. “It’s not going to be easy, but with enough hard work and faith, it’s possible,” she said.

With her passion for animals and commitment to her future, Ava Watson is already proving she’s on the right path.
