ALVA GOLDBUGS
Coach: RYNE WILSON
8-3
OFFENSE
There is excitement surrounding the Alva football program after a solid campaign last season. The Goldbugs closed out the season with eight wins and a trip to the postseason. Head coach Ryne Wilson is looking for his team to continue to make progress and have another big season. “We look to continue on the success from last year, after finishing second in Class 2AII District 1 and hosting a home playoff game for the first time in almost a decade,” the coach said. “Behind the senior leadership of Trace Hamilton, Shawn Hamlett, and Bentley London, we look to bring back six defensive players and seven offensive players. Ralston Green, another senior, will look to make his mark on both sides of the ball.” Shawn Hamlett (6-2, 210, Sr.) will lead the offense at running back. He will be a two-year starter who will look to find the open running lanes. Keiden Kimberly (Jr.) played at wide receiver last season, but ended up moving to the defensive side of the ball. He will look to make a bigger impact on the offense this season. Another guy to keep an eye on this season is Tucker Hannaford (Jr.). Along with being a good football player, he is a great teammate and is always ready to do whatever he can to help his team be successful.
DEFENSE
On the defensive side of the ball, the Goldbugs will look to continue to be a tough team to score against. Last season, they gave up an average of 21 points per game. Leading the charge will be Hamlett, who will be making the move from defensive end to linebacker. He is a big, strong player with a nose for the football and a high football IQ. Last season, he started every game on the defensive line and the offensive side as a tackle. He is willing to put his team first in all that he does, and does not care who gets the credit. Kimberly should pick up where he left off last season with big plays in teh secondary. Assistant coaches for the Goldbugs will be Marcus Mead, John Johnson, Derrick Thomas, and Ty Hooper.
