Enid Boys Golf – Presented by Ezzell & Shepherd

The Enid Plainsmen golf team had a solid season a year ago, making a trip to the state tournament. Head coach Tyler Dunham says that with last year’s success now in the rearview mirror, he will look for other guys to step up this season.

“Last season was a success for the boys by making it back to the state tournament,” Dunham said. “We had two freshmen and a sophomore on the roster joined by two seniors, and they put in the work to achieve their goal of making it back to the state tournament. We had a lot

of growth out of the underclassmen as the season progressed. This season, we are a very young team with no seniors on the varsity roster. We added freshman Peter Shepherd and sophomore Jette White, along with three returning starters in sophomores David Shepherd, Austin Kalow, and junior Landon Jung. It has been a tougher road with little experience, but the boys have taken on the challenge and are working hard to get back to the state tournament.”

David Shepherd and Austin Kalow, though they are young, look to be the leaders on the team this season. They both are incredible golfers and do a great job of helping teach some of the younger players how to practice better and learn better course management. They know the game well and will be key parts of this team in the coming years.

Overall, Dunham says that this year will be a year of growth and learning, but he has high hopes for the future of the program.

“We are young with little experience,” he said. “Understanding how to get better at course

management will be a big factor in how far we go this year. The boys understand the

challenges and are taking them head-on, working very hard to make the postseason. We are very excited about the future of this team. With everyone coming back next

year and some solid talent in the pipeline, this team has a ton of potential. We look

forward to seeing just how good these boys will be.”
