USAO’S Kamryn James – Presented by USAO

Kamryn James (Cushing HS ‘22) describes herself as a proud member of the Cherokee Nation. The University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma junior also stars in the outfield for the Drovers softball team. “USAO has made me feel welcome as a Native American student because it demonstrates its commitment to diversity through the
resources it provides for Native American students,” James said. “These include scholarships, cultural organizations and mentorship opportunities, all of which help foster a welcoming and inclusive environment.”
Every year she’s been at USAO, James has won a Sooner Athletic Conference Championship and played in the NAIA World Series.

“My favorite memory as a USAO student-athlete is celebrating on the field after we punched our ticket to the World Series,” James said. “There’s no better feeling than popping confetti and soaking up the moment with the
people you love and work hard with every day. It’s one of those rare moments where time feels like it just stops.”
James, a business major, maintains a 3.6 GPA and has received recognition for her success on the field and in the classroom. She has been named to the SAC Scholar Team, the SAC Honor Roll, Academic All-SAC and an SAC Scholar-Athlete.

“The professors at USAO are truly invested in my success. They are always available to provide support whether through office hours, email or feedback,” James said. “I also have access to multiple resources that contribute to my academic growth, including study hall, the student success center, tutoring and an overall supportive campus
environment.” James was an All-State selection at Cushing in 2022. She chose USAO “because it immediately felt like home.” “From the moment I stepped foot on campus during my softball visit with coach [Jadyn] Wallis,
I knew this was where I belonged,” James said. “USAO stands out because it offers the best of both worlds:
a high-quality education combined with the close-knit community

feel of a small college. The connections I’ve made with my peers and professors are genuine, and the sense of value and support is constant. Additionally, our athletics programs are incredible across all sports. That has a hype and competitive environment that’s second to none.”
