Carter Reid is a senior at Woodward High School. He participates in basketball, soccer, National Honor Society, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He has been participating in basketball for 13 years now. He got his start with sports from his family, but his love for basketball he got from his grandpa. His favorite part about basketball is how versatile it is and how many ways that it can be played.
Sports have taught Carter that in order to be successful, you must first work hard. He believes that to be a great athlete you need to have resilience and dedication. His favorite sports moment was in the third grade when his team hit buzzer beater three pointer to win the game against the number one team in their division. “This was the best moment of my sports career because nobody thought that we could win and it will always hold a special place in my heart,” Carter said.
His biggest role model is his dad, because “he is very hardworking and sets a really good example for me and my brothers of what a man should be,” Carter says. His biggest positive impact has been his coach, Coach Whittemore, because he’s made basketball fun for him and given him lots of positive encouragement. His favorite subject is math and his favorite teacher is Ms. Grunewald. In his free time, Carter likes to watch basketball, take care of his fish pond, and hangout with friends and family.
In the future, Carter plans to attend Oklahoma State University to get a degree in applied exercise science, after which he plans to study to get his doctorate in physical therapy. His advice to his fellow athletes is to keep working hard, even when you don’t see instant results. Carter says “delayed gratification is better than instant gratification.”
