Hennessey’s Katelyn Kennedy – Presented by Slater Mechanical

Katelyn Kennedy is a 17 year-old senior at Hennessey High School.  She is involved in many activities including varsity softball, varsity basketball, Student Council, National Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). What’s her favorite?  Basketball, despite the fact she tore her ACL last year, and has spent a whole year rehabilitating her knee.  In fact, the process has impacted her life to the point she wants to go to Oklahoma State University after graduation and major in exercise science.  She wants to be a physical therapist!

Katelyn has a brother, Jake, a sophomore, at OSU.  He plays baseball for the Cowboys and played under Brad Gore at Enid High School.  Sounds like a great reason to head to Stillwater.

Katelyn is highly competitive and was named a VYPE Top 100 Basketball Player.  She talked about learning some life lessons from sports.  She talked about adversity, resilience, patient, leadership and trust in God. Her basketball coach, Brian Richardson, had nothing but praise for Katelyn.  She is “one of the top three players’ he has coach in his 23 years of coaching both boys and girls basketball.  He talked about Katelyn being “high competitive, genuine, a positive influence for the younger players and a good leader.”

FCA is fairly new at Hennessey High School.  Coach Dallas Hunt, boys basketball coach, is the FCA sponsor.  The huddle meets every other week during lunch.  Coach Hunt talked about getting FCA going again at Hennessey.  ***

Katelyn has a home church and is involved with the FCA huddle.  They has about 25-30 kids at “See You at the Pole”.  Look for good things to happen for the Eagles with FCA back on campus.

I asked Katelyn what advice she might give a ninth grader going into high school.  She thought a few moments and replied, “Focus on what you can control, stay positive, your attitude and actions are important.  There will be tough times, so stay positive.”  The she added, “Choose your friends wisely!”

Katelyn Kennedy is making her mark at Hennessey High School.  She has learned some important lessons early in her life.  Look for the Lady Eagles to go deep in the basketball playoffs this season.  Look for Katelyn Kennedy to make her mark in life helping others!
