Cherokee’s Veronica Castro – Presented by Northwest Tech Center

The wide array of programs offered at Northwest Technology Center give high school students the opportunity to get a good experience of what they may be interested in doing once they graduate. Veronica Castro is a student at Cherokee High School and at the Alva Campus of Northwest Tech and she says that she chose the program she is in because of what it offered.

“I am in BioMed I this year,” she said. “I decided to take this program because I believed it would elevate my learning opportunities. I especially was interested in this program because it offered hands-on learning experiences for my favorite subject, which is science.”

She first heard about the programs offered at Northwest Tech by some of her fellow students at her school and she is glad that she did because it assists her in growing as a student and a person.

“I heard about Tech through some of the upperclassmen and the tours that we took,” she said. “I realized what a great opportunity Tech was and that is what made me interested. I believe it is widening my educational horizon as well as allowing me to get accustomed to being more independent and disciplined. I am learning lots of new things that I am sure I will use in my future career.”

If there is someone on the fence that is not sure that this is something that they should do or not, Castro has some words of advice.

“I would say go for it,” she stated. “Tech offers amazing opportunities that may not be easily available at a regular high school. I have gained lots of new knowledge that I know will be beneficial in my future. I have also made so many new friendships with students from surrounding schools.”

At Cherokee, Veronica is a junior and she is a member of the basketball, track, and fastpitch softball teams. Being an athlete, she has taken away from the games, more than just stats.

“I enjoy the lessons that are learned throughout each game and competition,” Castro said. “I believe these lessons help build my character. However more than anything I enjoy the relationships and friendships that are formed.”
