OFFENSE
The Whippets are coming off a season that saw them make a trip to the Class B semifinals. With a new season about to get underway, head coach Tanner Allen says that his squad will have to fill in some gaps, but he is looking forward to seeing what his squad can do. “We feel that we have a lot of guys that are capable of coming on strong this season,” he said. “After graduating a big senior class, we look forward to what our younger guys can string together this year.” Running back Blayne Jinkens (6-0, 170, So.) will be a key player on offense. While he did not see much time last year due to sitting behind a really good running back, Blayne has put in a lot of work in the offseason and should have an exciting year. Joining him in the backfield will be William Wooley (5-11, 170, Jr.) at quarterback. He is a solid athlete that has a high football IQ and should do a good job of leading the offense. Harley Karbs (5-10, 180, Jr.) will be at fullback this season.
DEFENSE
Okeene’s defense allowed their opponents to score an average of 30 points per game a year ago. With just two returning starters from that squad, they know they will need other guys to step up and make plays. Karbs will be back at linebacker ready to attack wherever the ball goes. Anchoring the defensive line will be nose guard Korey Turnham (5-11, 265, Jr.). He is a strong and physical player that will do a great job of being a disruption to the opposing offense. Assistant coaches this season will be Jeff Wardlaw, Reese Brickman, Jake Regier, Hunter Kahn, and Austin Booth.
