Garber Wolverines Football Preview – Presented by Barnstormers Restaurant

GARBER WOLVERINES

Coach: KOY HUGHES

6-6

OFFENSE

The nucleus of the team is back, and head coach Koy Hughes believes those players are seasoned and ready for a big year. “We return the core of our team, seven starters on both sides of the ball that have all been impact players since their freshmen years. We also have a ton of depth due to the size and experience of our younger classes. I have no doubt this team will compete with anybody this year,” said Hughes. Carson Bishop (5-11, 200, Sr.) rushed for 1,650 yards and 28 TDs last season and accounted for 408 yards through the air. Another Bishop making a big impact is Mark Bishop (5-11, 185, Sr.) at wide out and running back. Last season he rushed for nearly 400 yards with 475 yards receiving and six TDs. The Bishop’s can thank guys like Kooper Hughes (6-4, 285, Sr.) and Jackson Weibling (6-0, 255, Sr.) for their efforts on the offensive line. Hughes 101 career pancake blocks while Weibling has 77. Brett Howry (6-3, 175, Sr.) is one of two QBs for the Wolverines. Howry has thrown for nearly 5,000 yards on his career and has 73 TDs to his credit. Domingo Ramirez (6-1, 200, Sr.) should see time at QB and WR. Ramirez rushed for 654 yards, threw for 850 and accounted for 151 receiving yards. Also look for Cord Southwick (Fr.) at tight end.

DEFENSE

The aggressive style of defense continues in 2024 as the Wolverine’s 3-2 scheme features two of the top defensive ends in the class. Seth Smith (6-2, 200, Sr.) had 99 tackles a year ago with a couple of sacks. His partner-in-crime is Jackson Weibling on the opposite end. Weibling recorded 91 tackles and four sacks. Treven Blaser (6-4, 210, Sr.) is the “fly-around” linebacker the Wolverines need. Blaser made 127 tackles last year. He’s joined by Ramirez who brings the same brand of football to the defense. Ramirez made 113 tackles as a junior and is on pace to have more than 250 on his career. Mark Bishop and Carson Bishop shore up the secondary. Both players have a nose for the ball. Southwick could see time at DE thanks to his improvements in the weight room this offseason.
