WATONGA EAGLES

Coach: MATT WALTER

0-10

OFFENSE

The Eagles are entering the 2024 campaign ready to see improvement off of last season under new leadership. Matt Walter is in his first year at the helm of the Watonga football program and he is excited to get the season underway. “Our program is poised for a transformative season,” he said. “With a focus on development, discipline, and determination, our team is ready to fight and achieve new heights. The community’s support and enthusiasm will be crucial as the team strives for success on and off the field.” The guys up front will have a big impact on the season, and they will influence how the season will go. Dayson Cash (5-10, 190, Sr.), Jackson Chapman (5-10, 200, Sr.), and Landon Wagner (5-9, 205, Sr.) will anchor the offensive line and work to keep the defense out of the backfield. On the outside, wide receiver Ayden Perez (6-0, 175, Jr.) will work to get open and pull down passes. The two-headed running back monster of Chris Garcia (5-8, 185, Sr.) and Tristan Dobbins (6-2, 180, Jr.) will look to find open running lanes and get to the end zone.

DEFENSE

This season’s version of the Watonga defense will look to play faster and more physically. After allowing teams to score an average of 38 points per game last season, this year’s squad will work to attack the ball and be more aggressive. Garcia, Cash, and Dobbins make up a strong linebacker unit that will be a key to the defensive success. They are not afraid to play tough and will use their speed to get to the ball. Wagner will be the disruption up front that will cause issues for the opponents. In the secondary, Ivan Carmona (5-10, 170, Sr.) will be at cornerback and Perez will play safety. They will work to keep the opponents’ big plays to a minimum. Assistant coaches this season are Clint Benway, Tren Smith, Thomas Lazenby, John Cope, and Leroy Richardson.
