OUTLOOK

The Hooker Bulldogs could be on the right track this fall. “We return six starters and a handful of girls that got varsity experience last year,” head coach Aaron Ruiz said. “We have a good group of athletes that are competing for spots and working hard already this summer.” Hooker will open the season at Boise City at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12. The Bulldogs’ top two hitters from last year are back for more. Devry Metcalf (Sr., P/2B) is one of the best players the panhandle has to offer. “Devry has been a huge part of our successes the last three years. As a freshman, she was a DH for us and last two years has started at first and second base and also pitched,” Ruize said. “She has led the team in batting average and OBP the last two years. She notched 30 hits last season, which led the team, as well. She is also a great young lady and leads by example! She is very coachable and an extremely hard worker.” Kimley McGaha (Jr., C/1B) will lead the team behind the dish. “Kinley is a junior this year and started the previous two years for us,” Ruiz said. “She played first as a freshman and moved to catcher last year. She is super tough and does a great job behind the plate. She had 28 hits last year and was second in batting average and OBP.” Ruiz is eager for Allie Metcalf’s (Jr., P/1B) return after she went down with an injury last year. “Allie is a junior this year and missed most of last season due to a broken finger suffered in a game,” Ruiz said. “Allie still showed up every day and was a big part of our dugout and supported her teammates. She is a great young lady that works hard on the field and in the classroom.”
