Brody Smith, a standout junior at Billings School, has football running through his veins. Active in football, basketball, FFA, National Honor Society and a recipient of numerous academic and leadership awards, Brody has been playing quarterback since kindergarten. “My family is a football family, and it has always been something I loved, so I started playing when I was in kindergarten as a quarterback and have played that position since,” he shared, reflecting on his lifelong passion for the sport.
His family has been a driving force behind his love for football. “My family has always been a football family with a love and respect for the game. My dad was a football coach for years, and my oldest brother has coached at the collegiate level and is currently coaching high school football. All three of my brothers have received awards through football. My biggest influences are my family, especially my dad and brothers who love football and push me to do my best,” Brody explained.
This season, Brody describes the team’s chemistry as exceptional. “Our team is young, and in the last two years, we have learned football together, so our bond is more than just teammates…we are family, we are brothers.”
Brody’s roles on the field are crucial, both offensively and defensively. “On the offense, I have always played quarterback, and defensively, I play defensive end. I prepare in a lot of different ways, such as weightlifting and running in the offseason, watching other quarterbacks, and probably most importantly, making sure my mind is right before each game.”
Training is a significant part of Brody’s life. “Currently, I train five times a week in the weight room, focusing on improving my strength as well as spending time conditioning and improving my mechanics as a quarterback.”
A memorable moment for Brody this season was playing their first home game in 20 years. “It was great to see our community and lots of alumni at the game supporting us,” he shared.
Looking ahead, Brody has clear aspirations. “Finishing out my college career in football and graduating from college with a degree in veterinary medicine or animal science,” he said, outlining his plans for the next five years.
Community support is vital for Brody and his team. “Community support is everything. When the lights kick on and everyone in town is there to watch us, it drives me and my team to go out and perform at a high level.”
Outside of football, Brody enjoys various activities. “I enjoy fishing, spending time on the boat, buying and selling goats, horses and tack, and hanging with family and friends.”
Grateful for the support he has received, Brody thanks several people. “I want to thank my parents, brothers, and sisters-in-law for always supporting me. Also, I want to thank my teammates and the offensive line for blocking for me! Also, I want to thank our community for supporting Billings Football.”
