Timberlake Tigers Football Preview

TIMBERLAKE TIGERS

Coach: BRIAN SEVERIN

11-2

OFFENSE

Anticipation for the season is growing as Timberlake and head coach Brian Severin return several key starters on both sides of the ball. Severin said they are eager to get the season underway. Quarterback Payton Pierce (6-0, 165, Jr.) makes his return and will run the spread offense that includes VYPE Top 100 nominee Mavric Judd (6-1, 180, Jr.). Judd rushed for more than 1,000 yards last season and is expected to have another stellar year. The Tigers look strong up front with the return of Karson Shepard (6-0, 200, Sr.) at center and Christopher Diller (6-0, 200, Sr.) at guard. Add Caleb Barney (6-0, 180, Sr.) to the lineup and you have the makings of an athletic, and strong group up front. Alex Brewer (5-8, 140, Jr.) gives the Tigers another option at running back and he could be used in the passing game as well. With seven starters back, the Tigers feel good about their offense.

DEFENSE

The 3-2 scheme will feature Judd and Brewer starting on the corners. Both guys are athletic and cover extremely well. Barney returns at defensive end and is the team’s leading tackler. Diller will start opposite Barney giving the Tigers two players who can get up field and make plays. Shepard and Blake Choate (6-1, 190, Sr.) are two fast, hard-hitting linebackers the Tigers will depend on heavily this season. Shepard is a three-year starter at center and linebacker and carries a 4.0 GPA. Not to be outdone, Diller carries a 4.0 GPA as well. Another player to watch is William Crain (So.). Crain scored on a kick return last season and should continue to play a big role on special teams. The coaching staff consists of Tyler Severin, Garett Powell, and Sage Powers.
